And What’s Being Done to Protect Those Affected…

After attending a meeting, corresponding with an Anthem representative, and monitoring their website for updates, here’s more information on who’s at risk from the recent cyber attack and what steps Anthem is taking to control the potential harm to those whose data was compromised:

  • Who’s At Risk?
    • Current or former members of one of Anthem’s affiliated health plans
    • Members of any other independent Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans who received healthcare services in any of the areas that Anthem serves over the last 10 years may be impacted
  • What Information May Have Been Compromised?
    • Names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, health care ID numbers, home addresses, email addresses, employment information including income data
  • How Can Someone Know For Sure If Their Information Has Been Exposed?
    • Anthem will individually notify potentially impacted current and former members
    • Call a Toll Free Hotline Anthem has established (877-263-7995)
  • What’s Being Done To Help Past and Present Anthem Members and Other Potential Victims of the Cyber Attack?
    • Anthem is offering two years of Identity Protection And Identity Repair Services at no cost to exposed members and others whose information may have potentially been impacted.
    • Anthem is issuing Fraud Prevention Tips and advising members on how to remain vigilant for incidents of fraud and identity theft

The attacker has yet to be identified.  The investigation remains underway. And to the best of our knowledge nothing has been reported yet on what’s being done to curtail attacks like this recent one from happening again in the future.

We’ll continue to monitor the situation and report any significant developments.  In the meantime more detailed information can be found at www.anthemfacts.com.
